We’re still tracking froyo shop openings and closings worldwide. In January, we found 53 froyo shop openings in 16 countries, far less than December 2023’s 91 froyo shop openings and closings in 21 countries. The Philippines continues to lead with the most openings, eight in January, followed by Indonesia with six, and Malaysia with five. Llaollao had the most openings, with five in January. Anita Gelato opened its first branch in New Zealand.

December 2023 Froyo Shop Openings & Closings
December 2023 was a flurry of froyo activity. It seemed like new froyo shops were opening every day. We found 91 froyo shop openings in 21 countries December, compared to 62 openings in 19 countries in November 2023. In December 2022, we found 53 froyo shop openings in 22 countries. As you can see, the pace of froyo activity has increased, thanks to the new froyo shops in Asia.

We found 59 new froyo shops that opened in November, compared to 50 shops that opened in October. There were froyo shop openings in 18 countries, with the Philippines leading the way again, as they did in September and October, with 16 openings. Indonesia and Malaysia tied for second place, with seven openings a piece.
October Froyo Shop Openings & Closings
It’s the time of year that froyo business slows down in North America and Europe due to colder temperatures. Not surprisingly, we found fewer froyo shop openings, 49, in October compared to 57 froyo shop openings in September. The openings occurred in 17 countries, with the Philippines leading the way, as they did in September. There were 12 froyo shop openings in the Philippines in October. Malaysia had the second-highest number of openings with five.

There was an uptick in froyo shop openings in September. We found 56 froyo shop openings in 21 countries in September, compared to 51 froyo shop openings in 20 countries in August. The Philippines had the most openings with fifteen, followed by the United States with seven.

Froyo activity is definitely picking up, with more froyo shop openings in April than in any of the previous months of 2023. We found 46 new froyo shops in 16 countries in April, compared to 41 openings in 14 countries in March. Malaysia and Indonesia tied for first place with 10 new shops each. Italy was third with six new shops.
