In December 2024, we found 53 new businesses serving froyo representing 24 countries. This was very similar to November 2024, when we found 52 new froyo businesses in 22 countries. The most openings occurred in Australia, with eleven, which isn’t surprising considering that the Australian summer runs from December to February. Indonesia had the second most openings, with six, followed by the Philippines with five.

Froyo Chain Location Count & Largest Froyo Chains in 2024
It’s that time for the tale of the tape, our annual froyo chain location count. We’ll reveal the largest froyo chains in the world, how many locations they currently have, and how much they shrank or grew compared to this time last year. The big news is that Llaollao is now the largest frozen yogurt chain in the world. Menchie’s was the largest froyo chain in the world for many years, but Llaollao’s growth propelled it to the top spot.
October Froyo Shop Openings and Closings
In October, we found 73 new froyo shops in 23 countries, compared to 53 new froyo shops in 16 countries in September. The most openings occurred in the Philippines again, with twelve, followed by Indonesia with nine, and the United States and Malaysia with seven each.
September Froyo Shop Openings and Closings
In September, we found 51 new froyo shops in 16 countries, compared to 58 new froyo shops in 17 countries in August. The Philippines had the most openings, with fifteen, followed by Indonesia with seven. In August, Indonesia had the most openings with twelve. Llaollao had the most openings in September, with five in the Philippines, followed by J.CO with three in Indonesia and Tah-mee with three in the Philippines.
August Froyo Shop Openings and Closings
In August, we found 60 new froyo shops in 18 countries, compared to 57 new froyo shops in 21 countries in July. While the Philippines had the most froyo shop openings in July, Indonesia had the most openings in August, with twelve. Malaysia added eight new froyo shops in August, taking 2nd place, followed by the Philippines with seven.
June Froyo Shop Openings and Closings
June was another busy month for froyo shop openings. We found 67 new froyo shops (and a few trailers) in 20 countries in June, compared to 73 openings in 24 countries in May. The most openings occurred in the United States, with eighteen, with the Philippines in second place with eleven openings, and South Korea and Indonesia tying for third place with six openings a piece. The Philippines had the most openings in May.

With June and July as the traditionally busiest months for froyo, we weren’t surprised to find more froyo shop openings, 70, in May compared to 46 in April. These 70 froyo shop openings occurred in twenty-one countries.
Froyo Shops in Croatia: History, Trends & Shops

March Froyo Shop Openings and Closings
Froyo activity is picking up. In March, we found 58 new froyo shops in 22 countries, compared to February’s 44 new froyo shops in 14 countries. There were more openings than January’s 53 new froyo shops in 16 countries.
The most openings occurred in Indonesia with thirteen, followed by the United States with eleven, and the Philippines with eight. It’s the first time since August 2023 that the Philippines hasn’t had the most froyo openings. Llaollao had the most openings, with five, followed by Chimmy, J CO, and Yole with four a piece.
February Froyo Shop Openings and Closings
We’re still in a slow period for frozen yogurt activity, which is typical for February. This February we found 41 new froyo shops in 13 countries, compared to 53 froyo shop openings in 16 countries in January. The Philippines once again had the most openings, with nine in February, followed by five in Australia and five in the United States. Yogurt World in South Korea had the most openings, with four. Llaollao opened three new branches.
