Summer 2025 New Froyo Flavors and the Mystery Flavor Trend

With summer being the busiest time for froyo, we wanted to share the new flavors and flavor trends that we’ve spotted. It’s been a busy season for new flavor introductions. We found 31 new flavors, more than double the amount of last summer’s 14 new flavors.

Fruit flavors continued to be the most popular type of flavor to introduce during the summer. Of the 31 new flavors, 67% were fruit flavors. Many of these were tropical flavors and fruity combinations featuring more than one kind of fruit. The next most popular flavor category was surprising; mystery flavors accounted for 13% of the new summer flavors. Another 13% had ambiguous, creative flavor names like Bora Bora tart, Kool-Aid, and Blue Hawaii Tropical Candy.

Of this year’s new summer flavors, 64% were froyo flavors, 23% sorbet, 6% vegan (made with milk alternatives). This is similar to last summer, when 64% of the new flavors were froyo flavors, 29% sorbet, and 7% vegan made with alternative milks.

Mystery flavors are having a major moment, as are blind box toys, because people are seeking fun, novelty, and a sense of adventure. They evoke childhood memories of surprise treats and align with the popularity of experiential food. People can post their guesses, reactions, and reviews on TikTok, Instagram, and other social media platforms. For example, Wendy’s recently introduced mystery dipping sauces as part of the Netflix Wednesday’s Meal of Misfortune. McDonald’s introduced a mystery shake flavor called Mt. McDonaldland Shake on August 12.
