Interest in Froyo as Measured by Search Trends, 2025 Update

Every June, aka National Frozen Yogurt Month, we take a close look at interest in frozen yogurt, as measured by search traffic. Google Trends allows users to analyze search trends on Google, making it easy to look at search traffic trends over time and by geographic region.

While Google’s share of the search market has declined slightly, dropping below 90% for the first time in nearly a decade, it remains the leading search engine worldwide. As of April 2025, Google holds 89.65% of the global search engine market share. On desktop devices, its share is slightly lower at 79.1%, marking its lowest recorded percentage in over two decades. However, competitors like Bing (3.89%), Yandex (2.53%), and Yahoo (1.33%) have a much smaller share.

We saw little change in the search interest in frozen yogurt over the past twelve months, worldwide and in the United States. This conclusion is based on examining Google search trends for the search term “frozen yogurt” over the past five years, regional patterns in search traffic, and top related search queries.

Frozen Yogurt Search Traffic

We looked at Google search trends over the past five years (from June 2020 – June 2025) worldwide and in the United States. For both, search traffic shows a seasonal pattern, with interest peaking in June or July and hitting a low point in December. Not coincidentally, frozen yogurt consumption is typically highest in the summer months. This pattern is seen every year.

In the US and worldwide, interest in frozen yogurt over the past five years peaked in June 2021. The US traffic seems to be driving the worldwide results, since interest in frozen yogurt was by far the highest in the US in the past five years.

Looking at worldwide search traffic for frozen yogurt over the last 12 months (from June 2024 – June 2025), we see online searches for frozen yogurt peaked in July 2024 and are rising again as summer approaches. There was a burst of search activity around National Frozen Yogurt Day, February 6, and the beginning of the year, when people look to make more healthful choices.

Regional Interest in Frozen Yogurt

In terms of search interest in frozen yogurt, the top five regions over the last 12 months were: 1. United States, 2. Australia, 3. Canada, 4. Lebanon, 5. New Zealand. This differed from the top five last year (1. United States, 2. Australia, 3. Kuwait, 4. Canada, 5. Israel) but was very similar to 2023 (1. United States, 2. Canada, 3. Australia, 4. Lebanon, 5. New Zealand). Google adjusts for differences in the population size of countries by using the proportion of all search queries rather than looking at the absolute query count.

We have observed quite a few new froyo shops opening in Australia recently, though we’ve seen the most froyo shops open in the Philippines. The Philippines is not in the top five regions for search interest this year or last year. It was #11 on the list this year. This is true even though Google is the dominant search engine in the Philippines, with a market share of 90.68% in March 2025. We have seen many froyo shops open in South Korea over the past few years, but Google captures those trends to a more limited extent, as Naver is the most popular search engine in South Korea.
